Sea Otter Cottage

The Appin Area

Appin sits on the west coast of Scotland, where Loch Linnhe meets the Firth of Lorn. It is one of those rare places that still feels genuinely off the beaten track, despite being less than two hours from Glasgow.

The village of Port Appin looks directly across the water to the Isle of Lismore — the views from the shore on a clear morning are among the finest in Scotland. Castle Stalker, one of the most photographed castles in the country, sits on a tiny island just minutes away.

The area is perfect for walking, wildlife watching, sea kayaking, cycling, and simply doing very little. Red squirrels, otters, red kites and golden eagles are all regular sightings. The nearest town of Oban is just 18 miles south, offering superb seafood restaurants, distilleries, and ferry connections to the islands.
